MILITARY INDUSTRY

Space Electronics offers a wide variety of test solutions for the military industry:

   • Our wide variety of mass properties instruments offers solutions to measure and balance all types of payloads, from small ammunitions to electronic components to missiles. We manufacture instruments that measure mass, center of gravity, moment of inertia, product of inertia, and dynamic unbalance with the highest accuracy available. We provide the only true combined instruments that measure several mass properties in one setup.

Dedicated Weight and Center of Gravity Instrument

Example of a custom instrument that measures weight and center of gravity in one axis on a small bomb.

This small tabletop instrument is used by both government customers (Naval Surface Warfare Centers) and private companies (Aerojet).

Hammerhead Bomb on a KSR instrument

Measuring center of gravity and moment of inertia is essential to determine the flight characteristics of all ballistic objects.

Missiles are also tested for product of inertia. This is done with our POI series of instruments.

   • Our gimbal balancing machines allow balancing missile seekers and other gimbal mounted payloads.

Missile Seeker on a Gimbal Balance Machine

Statically balancing the seeker ensures that the missile will remain locked on target under high levels of accelerations.

Seekers are balanced to very tight tolerances, in the order of one gram-centimeter.

The Gimbal Balance Machine measures the unbalance of the seeker. A "weight correction" software dedicated to each seeker and integrated into the gimbal balancing software finds the amount of ballast correction to apply to set locations on the gimbal to bring it to within balancing tolerance.

   • Our centrifuges are dedicated to testing components at constant accelerations up to 400 g.

   • Our igniter circuit testers measure the resistance of electro-explosive circuits such as rocket igniters, explosive bolts, squibs, and blasting caps, using a test current which is as much as 1000 times less than a conventional precision low resistance ohmmeter.
