NEW HIGH SPEED KSR SERIES INSTRUMENTS

Faster Operation, Same Accuracy!

high speed KSR - mass
properties instrument - measures center of gravity and moment of inertia

This new instrument is three times faster than our traditional KSR series instruments that have been used throughout the industry for over thirty years.

Principle of Operation

The original instrument rotated to each of the four quadrants, stopped precisely at the correct angle, and then measured the CG offset moment. This required a variable speed motor drive that slowed down as it approached the correct angle, executed motions to damp out any vibration, and then edged slowly to its final destination.

The new instrument coasts to a stop at three approximately equally spaced locations.  An extremely precise optical encoder then measures the actual angle while a force-restoration transducer determines the moment to better than 0.01% accuracy.  The on-line computer then uses this data to determine X and Y CG of the object being measured.

Performance

Space Electronics KSR series instruments continue to offer the highest accuracy available for CG measurement with the use of closed-loop force rebalance technology.  Since their development more than 20 years ago, our KSR systems have proven to be superior to conventional passive technology (such as load cells).

Our KSR instruments have a dynamic range that is greater than 30,000 to 1.  One instrument can cover a range of payload weight previously requiring two or even three machines!  These instruments are available in a variety of sizes and measure both center of gravity and moment of inertia.

The new concept improves all of the performance criteria:  sensitivity, dynamic range, linearity, stiffness, and overload protection.  Dynamic range and sensitivity are increased by a factor of 100.  Linearity and stiffness are improved by a factor of 5.   Finally, the new design has an overload capability at least 3 times as great as conventional technology.
